In Jokkmokk, where the midnight sun shines in the summer all day, the sun never rises above the horizon at this time of the year. When we meet in Jokkmokk nowadays, we are smiling and telling each other: now it has turned, soon the sun is back!
This year, we also had a fantastic celebration of midwinter solstice on 21 December this year with an artist from the Netherlands, Wies Noest, and her colourful installations on the lake Talvatis.
But, contrary to what many might belive, it is not completely dark all day round in winter. Actually, if the sky is clear, the light is fantastic (although it lasts only for a couple of hours) as you can see from the pictures. I only can recommend to experience it by yourself.
